How to Read Cape Verde Postal Codes
A postal code helps postal operators sort mail and direct it to the correct area. In Cabo Verde, use the code that matches the recipient’s locality and complete address.
1. Understand the current format
Cabo Verde’s national postal-code regulation, published in March 2020, describes a code made up of seven numeric characters divided into two groups by a hyphen. An example of the style is 7937-049. The first group relates to administrative organisation, while the second group further identifies a postal area or delivery unit.
Older international addressing references may show a four-digit format such as 7600. Because the national system was updated, do not assume that an older four-digit example is the complete current code for every address.
2. Place it in an address
When preparing mail, write the recipient’s name, street or local address details, postal code, locality, island and country. For international mail, write CABO VERDE on the final line.
RECIPIENT NAME
Street / neighbourhood and building details
POSTAL CODE LOCALITY
ISLAND
CABO VERDE
3. Verify before sending
This directory is a helpful starting point, but the database may not include every locality or postal delivery zone. Review the record type and source note, then confirm the destination through Correios de Cabo Verde or the national postal-code portal.
4. Postal code vs. P.O. box
A postal code identifies a geographic postal area or delivery unit. A post office box is a rented box at a postal facility. They are not the same thing. If a recipient gives you both, include both exactly as instructed.
Quick checklist
- Confirm the current postal code for the exact address.
- Include locality and island where required.
- Do not confuse a postal code with a P.O. box number.
- Include “CABO VERDE” as the country for international mail.
